What is the MERV rating of an Air Filter?

All air filters, electrostatic or pleated, have a MERV rating. MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) is an industry standard, used to measure the efficiency of an air filter. The higher the MERV rating, the better the air filtration capability of the filter.

The most commonly used MERV rating for your home air filter is MERV 8. This will trap mold, spores, dust, pollen, dust mites, and standing dust.

MERV 11 air filters are sometimes used in homes with multiple pets along with various air borne allergies. They slow down the air and have to be cleaned more often.
